Who we are

Let’s get Muddy.

Toronto Muddy York RFC is an inclusive Rugby Union club based in Toronto, Canada. As an inclusive club, we are open to new players over the age of 18, regardless of experience, ability, sexual orientation, gender, or ethnicity.

We are one team with three pillars, offering multiple pathways to enjoy the sport and camaraderie of rugby, with social and competitive games played over the spring and summer months, with additional social and training opportunities year-round.

Play with us

Our non-contact, all-gender Mixed Abilities program provides a perfect place for anyone to jump right into the sport; with games throughout the spring and summer culminating in the All-In Cup, joining Muddy York has never been easier.

Our Men’s Contact team competes in the Toronto Rugby Union (TRU) on select Saturdays across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as in local and International Gay Rugby (IGR) tournaments at home and abroad. With us, you’ll have the chance to learn the sport, hone your skills, and make life-long friendships.

Our Women’s Contact program is a growing pillar of the team we’re thrilled to offer. Be part of an exciting journey to build this program from the ground up while taking advantage of our top-notch coaching program and an expanding set of games through the season.

In rugby, there is a phrase we use in every game and at every practice: with you. On the pitch, it’s used to let your teammate know that you are with them to support them when they’re tackled, to receive and carry the ball on for them when their flag is pulled. At Muddy York, we believe that mantra is as important off the field as it is during play; we are committed to be there and support each other.

More than anything, Muddy York is an inclusive community where you can come as you are and have a place in the team. Off the pitch, you’ll foster friendships through organized and impromptu events like rugby watch parties, beach days, picnic afternoons, and karaoke nights.

We also host public events throughout Pride Month, culminating with a march in Toronto’s Pride Parade.

Our Story

Our name – Toronto Muddy York – is a tribute to the original name of our hometown. Our team colours – blue and yellow – come from both the City of Toronto’s coat of arms, and the Rugby School in Warwickshire, where the game was created in 1823. Blue symbolizes tradition, loyalty, unity, and strength; while yellow symbolizes success, athletic achievements and joy.
